A double Journey that may converge into one… somehow, somewhen

Long story made short, I’m really going to write about the 2 main topics of my Work and Career pursuits I’m into now: Future Studies and Agility. If you want to know more about my motivation and my backgrounds, keep reading.

First day of the year and we set our best intents for the next 12 months, with renewed hope and energy to accomplish it all.

As it may seem for some a desperate act of forcing things to really happen in our life, or even silly unsustainable decisions and habits in the long run, at least for me it is just the perfect time to really put the things that matters most in front of less motivating tasks that needs to be done (such as taking out the garbage, which just figured out I forgot to).

During the last year, especially in the last 6 months, I got really serious about studying Future Thinking, taking specialization courses on the tools and mindsets to improve my skills at the subject of Future Studies. This is yet an on-going journey

I started my (very timid) way into future studies about 5 years ago, here in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, when I had a chance to dive in the macrotrends at the time, and later, 2 years after that I started an idea of 12 monthly workshops to present such trends to an entire organization of +2000 employees locally, the company I work for since 2010.

From that time now I just got increasingly bugged on how do we apply it to our daily lives and how Future Thinking and its many tools and supporting theories and philosophies could be a way for changing the futures of us all, especially for those who would need changes for better more than others. Much before even changing or shaping possibilities of futures, how do we understand what's about to come, in which hands do decisions that impacts our whole society will be in, in terms of new techs, services and how economical, political and social forces adapt or react to them.

In parallel, I’ve always been working in this 9 to 5 job, as a kind of Technical Project Manager, managing delivery of technology projects at an international company which provides IT & Telecom infrastructure for mobile carriers. If in my readings and studies I was really going to the more essential and philosophical questions, as the future of humankind in the perspective of technology, my daily life, especially at work, was much more about real life: timeplans, budgets, meetings with customer, troubleshootings, etc.

In the realm of my daily work, this 2020 year was the one also in which I could consolidate, certify, lead and apply at a completely new extent all my practical and theoretical knowledge on Agile & Scrum, especially on the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) adoption at multiple Delivery teams inside the organization.

This 2020 was also was also the year in which I decided to dedicate my free time to get better at Future thinking and to share this with the many groups I could join in along the years. I can’t detail right now what is about to come in 2021, but I can say I’m really excited to start writing as this will be probably the main starting point of something bigger, I expect to tell you all in the upcoming weeks.

As this both subjects will be the main topics of my Life and they relate to my work and career goals and endeavours during the upcoming 12 months (and a full plan for delivering at both is about to start), I decided to write about this double journey: I want to share my insights on the future of subjects such as Mobile Networks, Tech and Education and their impact on our society and businesses, and also want to share my insights and lessons learned in the adoption of Agile and SAFe in a non-software industry company.

My hope and intent is that everything I’m doing in both fronts, Agility and Future Studies, may merge, somehow. And even if they do not (which I really doubt), I’d like to at least share with you all the steps, decisions and lessons on the way so I can learn from sharing and from the feedback of who’ll be following me or reading one or other article here. So, expect from me some new text at both subjects every 1 week.

Wish you all guys a Happy New Year, and may it start brilliantly for us all!
